Background:
Uterine Fibroids are the most common benign tumor found in the female reproductive tract. They are found in 20-40% of women. Fibroid tumors are caused by a localized overgrowth of muscle fibers which start out as microscopic tumors. Most fibroids range in size from a marble to a grapefruit. However in extreme cases can grow immensely and distended the abdomen to the size of a full term pregnancy. Fibroids can presents in various ways, and women may complain of any of the following symptoms: heavy vaginal bleeding, pelvic pressure, pelvic pain, constipation, sexual discomfort, urinary frequency, abdominal swelling, and infertility. Complications of fibroids include: heavy irregular vaginal bleeding, anemia, blood transfusion, recurrent miscarriages, and severe pain.
Procedure:
